Recently in Benin city the capital of Edo state a family was almost wipe out by generating set smoke (carbon monoxide)but fate made it that the deceased son and daughter where not home on the night of the incident.

Now lets have a basic understanding why they died from carbon monoxide toxicity.
When we breath in oxygen the byproduct of respiration after the usage of oxygen is carbon dioxide or Co2.the carbon dioxide is directly coming from the cells.
It is carried easily by the blood to the lungs where its finally deposited and expired as byproducts from the lungs.
The substance or pigment in the blood that carries the carbon dioxide to the lungs is called hemoglobin, its known as the red part of the blood cells. This pigment is carried by the red blood cells.

The reason why the family of 3 died in Benin city is because they inhale carbon monoxide.
city is because they inhale carbon monoxide.
Carbon monoxide is a gas that has just one oxygen atom in it while carbon dioxide has 2 carbon atoms I'm it.

The reason why carbon monoxide kills is because when it bonds with the hemoglobin in the red blood cells it fails to unbind from it,this reaction can not be reversed this makes the individual suffocate internally(within the cells).
therefore exchange of oxygen and carbon monoxide by the cells will be stopped.
In few minute the individual become weak and brain damage start take place,in few hours death may result.

So the reason why the family died from generator smoke it because the generating set was too close to the house thereby allowing the smoke to fined its way into the rooms which lead to the death of the family.

Generating set should not be used indoors,it must be in a place where air can easily get to it

for oxidation of the gas to occur.
Nigerians should learn not to sleep with generating set, they can put it off before going to bed as this will save them from unnecessary stories in the morning.
